The 115 m long Humber Pedestrian Bridge employs a complex structure to achieve an exceptionally spare aesthetic. The critical visual components; the lowered and separate arch base and the slender deck and arch are normally associated with sites with solid ground to resist the arch thrust. At this site, with soft ground to a depth of 30 m, the appearance was achieved by fixing the arch base to the abutment and tying the abutments together with a post-tensioned deck. The deck cross section design, cross beams, handrails and hangers are all co-ordinated structural and architectural design. The detailing of the structure also included decorative elements including serpents on the thrust blocks and the thunderbird motif on the truss bracing.
Project value of approximately 5 million. For the City of Toronto while S. Brown employed at Delcan.
