The canopy structure is designed in strict conformance to the aesthetic design requirements, necessitating the use of plate steel elements rather than rolled sections. The structure is founded on the roof slab of the parking garage, using a reinforced concrete pad replacement of the original concrete paving. This permitted the maintenance of the existing waterproofing and avoided conflicts with internal conduits.
